ST. MARTIN & ST. MAARTEN TRANSPORTATION

You have some options when it comes to getting around St. Maarten / St. Martin.  St. Maarten taxis are readily found at the airport and everyone knows what a great tour guide a taxi driver makes.  It can get a bit expensive though, especially if you depend solely on taxis. Then there is the minibus that runs from one end of the island to the other. It can be a fund experience what with the music and loads of interesting people on board.  There are drawbacks to both, taxis can become expensive and buses don't go everywhere you might want to.

That's why we think that you will be best served by getting yourself a rental car for your stay. It is cheaper than a taxi, gives you freedom to go where and when you want, and it is a bit more personalized than the other two so you can load it up with stuff for a day at the beach without feeling overwhelmed.

St. Maarten / St. Martin Bus Service
The St. Martin / St. Maarten buses run every day throughout the island.  These are actually minibuses and for about $1 each way you can ride to stops all along the main routes.  There are no designated bus stops, so simply flag one down as you would a taxi and climb aboard!  The buses are not in a hurry to get anywhere, they are on "island time", so don't select this options if you are supposed to be anywhere at a given time.
 
St. Maarten / St. Martin Taxi Service
You can find a taxi at the airport that will take you anywhere on the island.  Depending on how far you are going you can expect to pay between ten to thirty dollars.  If you are planning on getting a car rental once at your hotel, then a taxi is a good choice for a hotel-airport shuttle. We wouldn't suggest using them as your only means of getting around St. Maarten / St. Martin as that could really knock a whole in your budget.
