ST. MAARTEN & ST. MARTIN RENTAL CARS
The best way to get around the island is with a St. Martin / St. Maarten rental car. There is so much to see and do on both sides that you are limited without having your own set of wheels. If you are planning on staying in one area for most of your vacation, you may choose to pick up a St. Maarten / St. Martin rental car for just one day to take a trip up to the mountains or to explore other coastlines.
St. Martin / St. Maarten does offer some off-roading opportunities out in the rural parts of the island. Even the standard roads, once you leave the major population centers, can be rough and bumpy, Add some rain and... If you think you may be inclined to do that you would be well advised to rent a jeep or similar vehicle for your stay.
You will notice there aren't a lot of stop signs or traffic lights so keep in mind the right-of-way rule, the guy on the right has the right. Speed is maintained by the strategic and thoughtful addition of speed bumps. The first one you hit going a bit fast is usually all it takes.
